The Club will hold is LGBTIQ Pride Round at the State Netball Hockey Centre during round 16 of the Bupa Victorian Netball League on Wednesday 10 July. The Lightning is just one of a number of Melbourne University Sport clubs who have become Pride Champions and are leading the way in promoting the safe inclusion of the LGBTIQ community in sporting programs.
Club President, Lindy Murphy believes “pride rounds such as these are important in creating a culture where LGBTQ people feel free and supported to play as their true selves. Sport is for everybody to enjoy, and creating a culture of inclusion and acceptance has a huge power to ensure all people have the space to participate equally within sport”.
All supporters and friends of the Lightning are encouraged to show their support of the LGBTIQ community by wearing rainbow colors to round 16 of the Bupa Victorian Netball League. Our players will be proudly wearing their rainbow bibs & hair ribbons.
