Netball is the pre-eminent sport for women in Victoria.

Netball Victoria is the state governing body responsible for the leadership, management, development and operation of netball across Victoria and as such delivers the Bupa Victorian Netball League (VNL), Victoria’s premier domestic netball competition.

Running from March to August, the competition is primarily based at the State Netball Hockey Centre and comprises three divisions: Championship, Division 1 & 19/U. The competition is an important facet of Netball Victoria’s Talent Identification & Development Program, providing elite competition for developing netballers and a pathway for players aspiring to play in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) competition. Melbourne University Lightning is one of 10 clubs that has been awarded a license to compete in the VNL.

The VNL directly connects with 350 players (aged 16 – 35), over  200 club administrators, coaches, team support staff, technical officials and 10,000 supporters across Victoria. Household decision makers and school leavers are significantly represented in the VNL demographic.

Melbourne University Lightning is partnered with the University of Melbourne & managed by a volunteer management group comprising individuals with sports business acumen and extensive community networks.

The Melbourne University Lightning players are outstanding role models for aspiring junior players and young females in the community. They are strong, healthy, active and articulate women who balance the demands of high performance athletes with other parts of their lives; studying, building careers and giving back to the community through the Club’s community based programs. We are fortunate to have a player and coaching list that includes former SSN players and current Australian Netball League and junior state team representatives.

Melbourne University Lightning, like most other female sporting organisations, requires the help and support of local businesses to meet its operational financial targets. The continued support of such partners builds the financial foundation that underpins the success of netball in our community.

Our Club Partner benefits and investment packages include a range of options and may be tailored to meet your organisation’s desired level of financial commitment. A sponsor benefit prospectus can be obtained by contacting lindy.murphy@unimelb.edu.au

As the Club prepares for all the action of the 2019 season, we always keep sight of the fact that netball is more than just a game; our sport empowers women and girls, and we have a genuine ability to build and strengthen capacity in communities. We encourage you and your organisation to join that community and our existing partners by supporting Melbourne University Lightning in 2019.
