ABOUT THE LIGHTNING

The Club

The Club is partnered with Melbourne University & managed by a volunteer management group comprising individuals with sport business acumen & extensive community networks. The Club currently boasts a 8-member Committee of Management, led by President, Michael Hutchinson.

Home Base

The Club’s home base is the University’s Parkville campus. The partnership includes access to the University’s indoor netball courts, athletics track, aquatic and fitness centre, meeting rooms, support from university professional staff & inclusion in the university’s internationally recognized Elite Athlete Program.

Club Training

The Club’s training venues for season 2024 are at Melbourne Sports Centres - Parkville (10 Brens Dr, Parkville VIC 3052). The weekly training sessions will be conducted on a Sunday afternoon from 1:00 – 3:00pm, and/or a Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Squads will rotate across both venues and days of the week throughout the season.

Our Goals

  1. Team performance success at all levels of competition within the Victorian Netball League

  2. Caring for the welfare of players and coaches.

  3. To create a product that attracts & provides successful sponsorship & other commercial opportunities.

  4. Delivery of an elite pathway for developing players through the delivery of a high-performance daily training environment.

  5. Community goodwill & connecting with our community through the implementation of mutually beneficial programs.

  6. Developing & implementing a professional management structure that encompasses best practice team management & administration.

  7. Player selection in Victorian Junior State Teams, Australian Netball League Teams and Suncorp Super Netball Clubs.

  8. Building aspirations for prospective students to want to study at a destination university that supports the student experience through high performance sport.

  9. To ensure that the club’s strategic objectives comply with the direction set by Netball Victoria and comply with the VNL Licence Agreement.

  10. Provision of first-class training facilities in partnership with The University of Melbourne.

  11. Self-sufficient & financial independence through increased sponsorship & fundraising opportunities.

  12. Sports management acumen and the ability to grow in all areas of Club management.
