Celebrating a decade with the University of Melbourne

Melbourne University Lightning celebrate ten years with the University of Melbourne
Melbourne University Lightning and the University of Melbourne are proud to celebrate a decade of partnership this year.
This milestone achievement marks ten years of shared values, commitment to excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for sports and education.
As Australia's Number One university and world leader in education, teaching and research excellence, the support from the University of Melbourne has been instrumental in propelling the Club to new heights since the end of 2014.
As the Club’s naming rights partner, the University of Melbourne has provided significant support to deliver a culture of ambition, dedication and success, inspiring players to excel both athletically and academically.
The partnership has seen the achievement of two Victorian Netball League titles (Championship in 2016, 19 & Under in 2023) and a further six finals appearances, establishing the Club as a force in the Victorian netball arena through a defining environment for athletes and coaches in the high performance pathway.
"We are thrilled to celebrate a tenth year with the University of Melbourne," said Michael Hutchinson, Melbourne University Lightning President.
"Their continued support has been pivotal in shaping the success of the Club, fostering a culture of excellence on and off the court. We look forward to building on the partnership and achieving new milestones together."
The university has demonstrated its dedication to promoting diversity, inclusivity and gender equality in sports and academia, with the relationship to further make a positive impact in the world of netball and beyond.
The university’s support will extend across the duration of the recently-awarded five-year license period of the Victorian Netball League until at least the end of 2028.
