All you need to know about the 2024 VNL season

The 2024 Victorian Netball League (VNL) season begins tonight!

Melbourne University Lightning will take on the Hawks for its first match of the season, at the home of the VNL - Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville.

The blockbuster opening round will also see City West Falcons take on Boroondara Express in what is a re-match of the 2023 Championship Grand Final.

Our 23 & Under side will take to the court for the first time in the new-look league, as we welcome Bendigo Strikers, Gippsland Stars and Western Warriors to the main stage for the first time.

Entry to VNL matches at Parkville is free.

A New Home Venue

We’re ecstatic to be playing two home matches this season at Narrandjeri Stadium in Thornbury.

Narrandjeri is the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung word for ‘Women Leader’, with the stadium's name recognising Traditional Owners’ history in the area and promoting women and girls’ participation in sport.

We’ll take on North East Blaze in Round 5 at the 300-seat venue, and City West Falcons in Round 20. Tickets for both matches will be available later this month.

The Season Ahead

Our fixture is packed with highlights!

Along with two home matches, there are two Regional Rounds, where all matches in Rounds 12 and 19 will take place away from Parkville, shared across seven different venues.

We’ll meet the Western Warriors in Bendigo in Round 12, and again in Round 19 in Ballarat.

ANZAC Round (Round 8) will be the first time we play City West Falcons since our 19 & Under teams played off in the (last ever) Grand Final last August.

Our 23 & Under team will challenge Gippsland Stars in Rounds 6 and 17, where our Championship side will enjoy a Bye.

And we’re looking forward to both Pride Round (Round 11 v Peninsula Waves) and First Nations Round (Round 14 v Hawks), where our teams will wear specially-designed uniforms to celebrate the respective rounds.
